  1. Wash the masoor dal, add it in a pressure cooker, then add 4-5 cups of water,turmeric powder and salt into it.Cover it with it's lid and cook it for 2 whistle on medium flame and keep it aside to cool. Meanwhile chop the onions, tomatoes,green chillies, coriander leaves and ginger-garlic.
  2. Heat oil in a pan, add asafoetida and cumin seeds into it, saute it and then add chopped onions into it, saute it till the onions become little golden then add chopped ginger-garlic into it. Saute it for 2 minutes.
  3. Then add chopped green chilli and 1tbsp of kashmiri red chilli powder into it.Cook all very well on low-medium flame. Then add chopped tomatoes and salt if required into it. Cook it till tomatoes become mussy.
  4. Then add cooked dal and chopped coriander leaves into it,mix it well and give it a boil and then switch off the flame.
  5. For tadka, heat 1tbsp of oil along with butter in a tadka pan,then add dry red chilli and chopped ginger-garlic into it, stir fry it for few seconds and then switch off the flame.Add 1/2 tbsp of kashmiri red chilli powder into the hot tadka, mix it and then pour the tadka on the dal, cover the pan with it's lid for 2 minutes and then serve it.
